10 Quotes to Inspire You to BE (the) PRESENT
Since being back in Los Angeles (it’s already been a month?! crazy), we’ve become very aware of how much VanLife has changed us. The chill morning vibes, the expansive thoughts, the freedom to be and do whatever we wanted on any given day. It makes us crave the wild open road… the kind of open road that has no wifi, no traffic, no honking – just time and possibility.
SO, this Christmas we wanted to channel our wanderlust, love-filled VanLife vibes and do something a bit different for you all. Something that would help us share a PEACE of what we grew to cherish as we lived life in the purest, most simple way we have ever known. Something that might allow us to encourage you to live with awareness and intention, and in turn, live your moments in the most rewarding of ways. We also wanted everyone to spend as little time on their computers/phones as possible, so without further hesitation, here are 10 of our most favorite quotes to help you BE (the) PRESENT this holiday season… and everyday day in between.
Taken in Ireland on the Cliffs of Moher.
Thoughts: If you find yourself stuck in a routine, numbed out by life, the holidays are the perfect time to TAKE ACTION. Set the intention to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY. Call a family member you haven’t seen for a while, write a sweet card for a friend and leave it on their doorstep. Live life in such a way that it fills your heart with so much love it pours out onto those around you!
Taken on the busy streets of Dublin at rush hour.
Thoughts: The holidays/life in general can be absolutely overwhelming to say the least. Escape to a quiet place for an afternoon and reflect on what’s truly important to you. Write these things down and make a plan to add more of all of it to your life in the New Year. You deserve it!
Taken from the top of the Glastonbury Tor at sunrise.
Thoughts: So maybe dreams of Santa and his magical reindeer delivering piles of gifts via the chimney you don’t have aren’t waking you up before the rooster anymore, what a shame, amiright!? But that doesn’t mean you can’t find something that speaks to those sweet corners of your childhood heart, it’s still the same heart after all, and those feelings have to be stored away somewhere! Awaken them! Try doing something you love 1st thing in the morning – yoga, read a page of your favorite book, go outside and BREATHE, make pancakes… better yet, make pancakes for the whole family! Do something that excites you, no matter how small.
Taken in the mountains of Northern Croatia where we parked next to a giant lake and a thunderstorm, which lasted all night, was rolling in.
Thoughts: Spend less time on your phone and more time with the people around you and the desires in your heart. FEEL where your life needs you and go there.
Taken over the coastal farm fields in Dingle, Ireland.
Thoughts: I know we can become jaded by the phrase, “Life is short,” but after living on the road for the past 2 years we have become increasingly aware of how big the world is, how small we are and how quickly time passes by. Stop pretending like you have forever and realize that all we really have is NOW. What you don’t do today, you probably won’t do tomorrow and eventually, you’ll do it never… don’t let that be your story.
Taken after our picnic as we hiked 13 miles along the Cliffs of Moher.
Thoughts: Be there for those you love. It’s in the seedlings of tiny moments that BIG THINGS take root.
Taken in the wild tulip fields of Amsterdam on the morning of my 28th Birthday.
Thoughts: Practice needing less and being more. Maybe what you need you already have, you just haven’t taken the time to find, use and appreciate it…
Taken on the Côte Sauvage in Brittany, France looking up at the clouds as the sun set.
Thoughts: You already have all the happiness you’ll ever need, the tricky part is that it only comes to life when you seek and share it.
Taken in Hallstatt, Austria where we camped for 3 nights.
Thoughts: Reconnect with your spirit and remember why we are here. Gifts can be a kind and generous thing of course, so long as we stay connected to the true meaning and gift of the holidays/life.
Taken off the coast of Dubrovnik where we jumped from the cliffs into the Adriatic Sea at sunset with our friends, who took this beautiful picture – thank you.
Thoughts: BE PRESENT. During the holidays, in your day-to-day life, in your relationships. Recognize how much you matter to those around you and find the courage to discover what it means to LIVE FROM YOUR SOUL. The less time you spend with technology (read our essential Digital Detox tips here), the more time you can practice discovering and connecting with the “things” that matter most. YOU can be the greatest gift you give this year.
Our parting gift to you:
Print this and bring it to a Christmas gathering. Tape it next to an ATM, outside your door or on a random street corner. It just might generate a few more smiles than would have existed in the world otherwise and that’s a beautiful, powerful thing 🙂
