A couple weeks ago Drew and I decided to sign up for a couple more studio shows we haven’t yet attended. We want to take advantage of the unique things that this city offers while we are here, why not right?! And it’s basically always free, no brainer. This round we signed up to go see Chelsea Lately and Conan O’Brian (we’re seeing him next week), today was Chelsea day!

So we got to the Universal Studios Lot at 2:45pm, tickets say to get there by 3pm in order to be assured entry. There was already a pretty long line of people, we were numbers 85 and 86 in the line.. meh. I would say to get there between 2 and 2:30 depending on how much you care about seating.

Dress code is basically business casual, NO white. Guys can wear jeans, but make sure you have a nicer top and close toed shoes. Ladies can pretty much wear whatever they like as long as it is in good taste of course. No cameras, no phones- the usual.

Oh! parking, I forgot to mention. We parked in one of the 4-hour meter spots along Lankershim, just past the studio, expect to leave the show 2 hours after the time your ticket says to show up. Ours said to be there at 3, we were out and walking to our car by 5. PS- Someone “paid it forward” on our meter when we parked… free parking in LA? No way.

Ok, so we probably stood in line for an hour but it was because we were in the 3rd group of people that they walk over to the studio. We didn’t know that they walk you over in groups so when she got to us and said “Stop,” after counting to 40, we were worried that we were the cut off point… this has happened once before at Jimmy Kimmel, it’s just totally one of those “ughh” moments. But luckily we were at the beginning of the next/ last group.

Once they walked us over to the studio with our group, we handed in our tickets and they also let us use the restroom (phew) before entering to be seated. They seated everyone randomly but the workers really did a great job at trying to find the best possible seat left open for each next person.

Originally we were seated right behind the cameras so we couldn’t really see anything, but we were ok with that. About 3 minutes before filming, the seating guy came over to us and said, “Why don’t you two move up front? I forgot I had two seats up there.” Really?! We had just gotten done accepting our crappy seats and now we’re being upgraded? Yay! I love it when those things happen.

So, yes, I watched Chelsea from the 2nd row and got face-to-face with Chuy (her miniature sidekick). It was an awesome show, ZERO re-rakes, a whole lot of her awesome, random jokes and it was all filmed in less than an hour, fastest one I’ve been to yet. The special guests were the cast of her fake-reality show, “After Lately” and the featured comedians were John Caparulo, Loni Love and Gary Valentine.

Important: If you want to get a book or poster signed by Chelsea, be sure to buy it beforehand and bring it with you. All you have to do is hand it to the security guard in the studio and ask if he can help you get it signed. He will 🙂 Chelsea signs everything he brings to her and he hands them back you at the end of the show.

Last thing about going to see Chelsea Lately, Chuy Balls. They throw them out into the audience between takes, watch out 🙂
